krabi.. crabs in krabi?

hahaha... noooo not the STD.. actual crabs!

My bus arrived in Krabi and I got a transfer to Krabi Town. The book said Krabi town is usually skipped but those who stay wil find blah, blah, blah...
I think they had it right the first time. Krabi town can be skipped. Now my opinion may also be coloured by not so great weather and a sudden realisation that for the first time I was all alone. But really it was a dirty town with nothing good to do and crappy travel agents each trying to rip you off (I'll explain later).

I was able to find a nice single room at a clean guesthouse for 250 baht. I also went to the night market and got myself a decent (though spicy) pad thai for only 25 baht (the only redeaming quality of krabi I assure you).

I had booked my minivan to Koh lanta when I booked my Krabi accommodation but wasn't convinced that the accommodation on Koh Lanta was as expensive as the agents were claiming. I'm aware my book is slightly out of date but it's 1 year old not 10.. prices don't jump up that much! Especially not when tourism is at off season levels due to issues at the country's major airport! It's funny because I generally wrote down prices as they told them to me and aside from each agent pulling a different number off the top of their head for certain places I'm pretty sure one agent told me two different prices for the same place!

I chose not to book with the agents in Krabi as they didn't really seem honest and tentatively booked myself at a place in northern Lanta and decided to look when i got their but use that as my back up.

The next morning I got up and went for another 30 minute run before showering and getting on the minivan for Koh Lanta. What a joy that was! The driver obviously hated that we all had vouchers saying "paid in full" because he spent over half an hour driving around town looking for the agencies so he could exchyange the vouchers for cash (a little shady if you ask me).

Anyways.. stay tuned for news from Koh Lanta where hopefully the weather and the trip will pick up a bit.

And yes... there were crabs in Krabi!
